Three Austin venues announce closures — for now

Don’t lose hope, these three venues may soon reopen, but it’s time to bid them farewell in the meantime.

A man is playing an electric guitar on stage. He is wearing sunglasses and a dark green short-sleeved shirt. Behind him are American and Texas flags, and a sign that reads, "Biggest Little Stage in South Austin GIDDY UPS." There are also various musical equipment and instruments on the stage, including a drum set and amplifiers.

A handful of local venues recently announced they will close down, at least for now. However, all hope is not lost, as there’s a chance they will reopen.

Giddy Ups | Located in far south Austin, honky-tonk Giddy Ups will shutter on Sunday, Aug. 11 due to a change in the lease. Owner Michael Morgan hopes to relocate the venue but has yet to nail down a location.

Ego’s | As property owners plan to demolish its building, South Congress Avenue karaoke bar Ego’s could close soon, but will be open through the end of the month. The bar, which originally opened in 1979, announced the closure on social media, saying it might reopen in the future.

The Lost Well | According to a Facebook post by owner Marcello Murphy, this punk and metal venue will likely close within the coming months. Murphy said he plans to make an official announcement soon.
