Crafting Taylor Swift-themed drinks at Cover 3’s quarterly cocktail class

We built our own “Tim McGraw Mule” and “Lavender Haze” drinks at the north Austin restaurant’s new cocktail making series.

On a white table, several classes and copper cocktail shakers are seen from above. Also piled on the table are a Taylor Swift-themed menu, a guitar-shaped toothpick, a small charcuterie board, and two friendship bracelets with Taylor Swift songs on them.

Attendees to Cover 3’s Taylor Swift-themed cocktail class recieved personal menus, unique friendship bracelets, and a mini charcuterie board.

Hey, Austinites. We’re back with the next installment of our local classes series, where we try out some of the coolest ways to learn in Austin and report back on our experiences.

Today we’re highlighting the newly established cocktail making classes at Cover 3 in North Shoal Creek.

What to expect

Each class is themed at Cover 3, and we were lucky enough to catch the Taylor Swift edition — aptly called “Cocktail Class (Taylor’s Version)” — in February.

Not only were the attendees decked out in their best Taylor-inspired outfits, but the tables were decorated with custom menus, glitter, and unique friendship bracelets for each person to take home. Each guest also had their own mini charcuterie board for mid-class snacking.

Throughout the course of the night, we made four themed cocktails, including a “Champagne Problems” and a “Drop on My Guitar.” In between each guided cocktail creation, event leaders hosted Taylor Swift trivia rounds and doled out prizes for the winners.

A copper mule mug has a spicy peach candy resting on top of it, speared through with a guitar-shaped toothpick. Behind it, more glasses and containers with liquids are arranged on a table.

The “Tim McGraw Mule” was refreshing and delicious.

What we learned

City Editor London here. Not only did I practically quadruple my Taylor Swift knowledge (did you know she was named after James Taylor?) but I also brought home four cocktail recipes I can’t wait to try out at home. Here’s my favorite:

Lavender Haze

  • 1 oz. lavender honey syrup
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • 2.5 oz Empress gin
  • Lavender sprig, for garnish

Now it’s your turn.

Cover 3’s next cocktail class is slated for Thursday, May 16. Just in time to kick off summer, the event will be hosted outside and focus on “Poolside and Patio Sippers.”

Tickets will cost $40 per person and go on sale in late April, so keep an eye on the event page for updates.

The “Drop On My Guitar” contained tequila, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, and lemon juice with a sugar rim.
