$3,125,000. That’s how much grant money Austin Parks and Recreation Department will receive from the National Park Service for the Montopolis Pool Replacement Project. Austin will be the only city in the state awarded these funds, which will be used to repair + modernize the four decade-old pool.
Located in Southeast Austin’s Montopolis Neighborhood Park, these renovations will help the pool serve as a special gathering place for the ever-growing community.
In total, $61.1 million in grant funding will be distributed to 26 cities across the country from the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program. Other cities that will be awarded grant money include Los Angeles, Seattle, and Boulder, CO. The program affords urban communities the opportunity to create new outdoor recreation spaces + revitalize existing parks.
What’s the Montopolis Pool Project?
In 2018, City of Austin voters approved a General Obligation Bond, which included funding for the renovation of the pool. The project will have a $4 million construction budget funded through the bond.
This project is part of the 2018 Aquatic Master Plan. The community engagement process for the renovation project is open until Mon., May 23, and your input can be given here.
