Ever wondered if a move could help you save some dough? You’ve come to the right place to help you find the next place.

Rent prices in the Capital City tumbled down more than most major metro areas in the last year, according to a recent Redfin study. The decline is due in part to a sizable influx in apartment construction — the Downtown area alone has added ~7,000 apartments over the last four years.

Compared to other large US cities, Austin also offers a decent bang for your buck in terms of space. According to a 2024 study from RentCafe, $1,500 per month can get you ~759 sqft of space to call home. That’ss the least amount of space you’ll find in Texas, but 30 sqft more than the average American city dweller has.

Here’s the price situation in Austin: the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,545 per month according to Rent.com, $1,527 per month according to Zumper, $1,435 per month according to Apartments.com, and $1,656 per month according to RentCafe. We averaged those numbers to arrive at a citywide average of $1,541.

To get the rent measurements for each neighborhood, we averaged the averages from those four websites, which used data from the last six months. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the (note: approximate) cost of living in these 15 Austin neighborhoods.
