GOBankingRates used data from the U.S. Census and American Community Survey to look at people’s incomes across major cities and determine the average salaries for the top 20% + top 5% earners in each location.
The survey shows the average income of the top 20% in Austin is $267,777, and the average income of the top 5% is $485,554.
Out of 50 major cities across the nation, Austin came in the eighth spot for the rich, the only city in Texas to make the top 10. So, how did Austin compare to other major cities across the state?
💰 Houston’s rich earn $115,794 — $29,372 less than rich Austinites
💰 Dallas’s rich earn $112,570 — $32,596 less than rich Ausinites
💰 San Antonio’s rich earn $103,459 — $41,707 less than rich Austinites
Looks like Austin takes the cake (or money, in this case).
Interestingly enough, the average salary in Austin is $71,000, according to compensation software and data company Payscale.
