The Downtown Austin Alliance will launch a new Downtown Austin Space Activation program on Tuesday, June 13. The initiative aims to create affordable, flexible spaces for pop-ups, mini markets, art installations, co-working spaces, and community events.

Austin Water is asking residents in southwest Austin to conserve water while a line is under repair today. The repair is expected to take at least 12 hours and could result in low water pressure — check this map to see if your area will be affected. (KXAN)
Outdoors
Round Rock’s Play for All Abilities Park debuted a collection of large, colorful communication boards to help children and adults who struggle to communicate verbally. Created by UT alumna Caroline Osborn, the boards can be found in four areas of the park. (KUT)

After an Alamo Drafthouse franchisee filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse announced it will close all five locations in North Texas. Representatives with the company said customer foot traffic never recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic, but they hope for Alamo to return to the Dallas-Fort Worth area soon. (KVUE)

Austin said yes. Singer-songwriter Omar Apollo will bring his “God Said No” tour to the Moody Amphitheater, with special guest Malcolm Todd, on Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets will begin presale on Tuesday, June 11 and general sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14.

A trio of new restaurants were announced this week, replacing closed or soon-to-close spots.
Radio Rosewood + Try Hard Coffee
Radio Coffee & Beer’s third location will open this summer in the former Try Hard Coffee space at 1115 E. 11th St. Radio Rosewood will serve the familiar coffee, cocktails, and food from Shortwave Diner, so don’t expect outside food trucks.
OKO + Ah Sing Den
After eight years, cocktail lounge Ah Sing Den will close down on Sunday, June 9 and become an Asian “food and drink emporium” called OKO. The new concept will serve a largely Texan-Filipino menu and open this fall.
Radius Butcher & Grocery + Salt & Time
Butcher shop + restaurant Salt & Time, 1912 E. 7th St., will close on Saturday, July 6, giving way to farm-to-market Radius Butcher & Grocery late this year. Radius plans to hire some of the same vendors and staff.
