With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments just around the corner, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a faceoff of our own.
Last year, you helped us name the best brewery (Meanwhile Brewing) plus, you’ve also helped us pick the best food truck and best taco. This year, we asked you to share your favorite pizza in Austin. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator — we have the official lineup for our bracket.
Winner
And the bracket winner is… Home Slice Pizza, voted best pizza shop in Austin by our readers and social media followers in our ATXtoday pizza bracket. We can’t say we’re surprised, after all, it is the South Congress Avenue original and “Queen of Pies.”
We want to extend a major “thank you” to all of you for participating in our bracket challenge the past few weeks. We’ve had a blast seeing how the votes shook out, and we hope you did too. Looking for more pizza places around town? Check out our guide.
Championship round
We’re back with our ATXtoday pizza bracket, where we’re asking you to determine the best ‘za in Austin.
It’s officially the championship round and we’re down two shops left:
- Home Slice Pizza and Pinthouse Pizza | It’s the South Congress Avenue “Queen of Pies” versus the sourdough pies from Pinthouse (which was also a finalist in our brewery bracket).

Round one
Who’s in the running
Going head-to-head in the first round are:
- Via 313 and Brooklyn Pie Co. | Although both spots are immensely popular in ATX, it’s Detroit vs. New York-style pizza in this match up.
- Home Slice Pizza and Salvation Pizza | The well-known “Queen of Pies” originating on South Congress Avenue will take on the thin-crust, New Haven-style pizza restaurant.
- Little Deli & Pizzeria and Pinthouse Pizza | Little Deli’s New Jersey-style pizza will go head-to-head with Pinthouse’s sourdough pies.
- Pedroso’s Pizza and Saccone’s Pizza & Subs | Pedroso’s has strength in pizza variety, while Saccone’s serves up pizza with a “Jersey attitude.”
How it works
Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Austin’s best pizza. Who moves on is up to you.
Vote for your favorites, and the pizzeria with more votes moves on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Monday, March 25 newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.
How to participate
Vote for the ‘za you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.
Ready to cheer your “team” to victory? Vote here.
