Kimbal Musk’s restaurant The Kitchen opening in Austin

The American bistro will feature Texas-sourced ingredients and spirits in an upscale, Lone Star State-chic interior.

Kimbal Musk, the restaurateur and entrepreneur brother of Elon Musk, is bringing a new location of The Kitchen to Austin.

The farm-to-table restaurant will open in an 8,300-sqft, two-story space on Thursday, Nov. 14 on the ground floor of the Sixth and Guadalupe tower Downtown. The Austin location will be the restaurant’s third site, after Chicago and Boulder, Colorado (which opened in 2004).

The restaurant will have a soft opening period from Friday, Nov. 8 to Wednesday, Nov. 13, during which a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Central Texas Food Bank and Les Dames D’escoffier.

The Kitchen will focus on American food with global influences — sourcing ingredients like Akaushi beef and quail from Texas when possible. Signature dishes will include grilled oysters, gluten-free crab fried rice with Thai lime-nam jim, tagliatelle with duck confit, and Urfa carrots with whipped feta.

Meanwhile, the bar program will introduce a host of Texas-made spirits, featuring an old fashioned made with Garrison Brothers Small Batch and Earl Grey tea, a Mexican martini made with El Afan Tequila, and the “Wild Blackberry” made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka. The bar will also carry over favorites from previous locations of The Kitchen, like “Kimbal’s Perfect Negroni” and “The Kitchen Martini.”

Kimbal, who says Austin is “like a second home” to him, tapped local architecture firm Michael Hsu to build out the interior of the dining room. It features a wood-wrapped bar with mirrored glass, banquette seating, chandeliers, an open kitchen, and a private dining room with velvet wallpaper. In fall 2025, The Kitchen will open a private event space on the upper level.

The Kitchen will begin serving dinner daily at 4 p.m., with brunch and lunch service planned to open in the future. Make a reservation.
