Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and if you haven’t cast your vote yet, it’s your last chance to do so.

Here are 10 tips to keep in mind on Election Day in Austin. Happy voting, y’all.

  1. Find your nearest polling location here.
  2. Make sure you have one of the seven valid forms of your photo ID — you won’t be able to cast your vote without it.
  3. Don’t wear anything that publicizes candidates, parties, or measures, even if they aren’t on the ballot. Campaigning is forbidden within 100 ft of polling places.
  4. Review a sample ballot or our guide to voting in Austin. If you’d like to bring materials with you, make sure it’s written on paper. You aren’t allowed to use your cell phone at the polls.
  5. CapMetro will offer fare-free rides to the polls, plus free 60-minute rides via the Bikeshare app when you select the “I Voted!” pass.
  6. If you’d rather call a rideshare, Lyft and Uber are both offering 50% off rides (up to $10 off) on Election Day.
  7. Be sure to get in line by 7 p.m. Simply queuing up guarantees your right to vote.
  8. If you run into any roadblocks that you believe may be unconstitutional while voting, call the secretary of state’s toll-free helpline, 1(800) 252-VOTE. You can also contact Texas voting rights groups at (866) 687-8683 in English or (888) 839-8682 in Spanish.
  9. After you’ve received your “I Voted” sticker, take it to one of these local businesses to get free snacks and drinks.
  10. If you’d like to watch the results roll in with other Austinites, peruse our events calendar to find local watch parties.
