Texas is hot — both literally and figuratively. 🔥

Texas cities were all over the 2023 Emerging Trends in Real Estate list — put together by the Urban Land Institute and PricewaterhouseCoopers — and Austin remains in the top five hottest markets of the US and Canada. The study measures overall real estate prospects for the coming year.

Here’s how Texas’ most desirable markets stack up:

  • No. 2: Dallas-Fort Worth
  • No. 4: Austin
  • No. 12: San Antonio
  • No. 14: Houston

Given Austin’s explosive growth and proclivity for new development, the city falls into the “Supernova" category, which is defined by “tremendous and sustained population and job growth,” high “economic diversity and white-collar employment,” and likelihood to remain on that trajectory.

Though the capital city falls behind Nashville, Dallas, and Atlanta, Austin’s placement has not wavered since the 2022 report . However, Dallas shot up a staggering five places, surpassing Austin for the first time since 2019 .

Laura Figi has called Austin home for more than 12 years and has been known to say it’s her “favorite city in the world.” A proud graduate of Texas State University, she’s been working in local news since 2020. When she’s not working and learning about the community, you can find her at the local thrift shop, spending time with her two cats, or listening to live music.
