Eight. That’s how many MICHELIN Key-holding hotels call Austin home.

MICHELIN Guide officials announced 412 new awardees at a conference in Austin on Thursday, Sept. 12 — 168 hotels in the US, 87 in Mexico, and 33 in Canada. Austin topped the state for most MICHELIN Key awards.

What is a MICHELIN Key?

Like a MICHELIN Star indicates phenomenal cuisine, the MICHELIN Key division denotes excellence in lodging. Hotels are eligible to receive one (the lowest), two, or three keys (the highest) depending on quality of experience.

Two keys awardee

The Commodore Perry Estate — part of the Auberge Resorts Collection — was the only hotel in Austin to be awarded more than one key. Only three hotels in Texas boast two keys, and none have three keys.
