Austin is no stranger to claiming the top spots on national lists.

From reigning supreme for having the No. 1 local bookstore in the entire state to being one of the “buggiest” cities in the nation (Keep Austin Weird, right?), here are six rankings that include our beloved Capital City.

💰 No. 1. The Austin-Round Rock area is the top metro area in Texas for median salary growth , according to the ADP Research Institute. The area saw a 9.40% increase for its median salary from 2019 to 2021.

📚 No. 1. Yelp ranked Recycled Reads (5335 Burnet Rd.) at the top of its list of best local bookstores in Texas . Recycled Reads is owned by the Austin Public Library + sells repurposed library books as well as used books, CDs, DVDs, art, and board games that have been donated by the public.

💊 No. 1. Austinites — just like most Texans — love H-E-B, a San Antonio-based grocery store, with many locations around the city. The grocer’s pharmacy claimed the top spot in the country for customer satisfaction, according to a J.D Power U.S. Pharmacy Study . Categories included pharmacy trust and time + cost savings. ♻️ No. 3. That’s how high Austin ranked on Park Sleep Fly’s list of the 50 most visited US cities with the lowest carbon footprint per capita. Austin also ranked No. 9 on the blog’s list of most sustainable destinations in the US.

🪲 No. 4. Austin is the fourth “buggiest city” in the US , according to home management app Thumbtack. Data came from users on the app requesting services such as pest control, pest inspection, and bed bug extermination.
