Three ways to keep Austin waterways clean

I recently spent some time cleaning up the Lake Creek Trail with Keep Austin Beautiful. Not only did we pick up 20+ bags of litter and debris along the North Austin creek , but I also learned a lot about how to be a better steward of our Central Texas waterways.

Here are a few tips:

First thing’s first: don’t litter. You can also prevent waste from accidentally blowing away by not overfilling your trash bin and being extra careful while camping and hiking.
Next time you go for a walk or run, try plogging . Originally a Swedish trend, the now-global effort is as simple as picking up trash while out and about.
If you have land, plant native plants — they help reduce runoff into our lakes and streams + support local ecosystems.
