A packed crowd at Stubb’s outdoor music venue in Austin, with fans raising their hands and phones toward the stage. The arched canopy above the stage is illuminated with red and pink visuals, while bright stage lights highlight the performing band. A second-level balcony overlooking the scene is filled with spectators, and surrounding trees are lit with blue and purple lighting.

News Notes

Civic

Austin City Council approved an ordinance to allow police officers to fine drivers up to $500 for excessively loud engines (aka over 85 decibels), after repeated complaints from residents near RM 2222 west of Loop 360. Officers have a 30-day grace period to issue verbal or written warnings before the ordinance goes into effect. (Austin American-Statesman)

Open

Pflugerville’s very first JuiceLand is now open at the H-E-B near Leman Park. The Austin-based chain has ~50 locations — 37 of which are in the Central Texas area. (Community Impact)

Mansion Monday

This 7.5-acre sanctuary is Hill Country living at its finest. Located near Sculpture Falls, this home overlooks miles of the Barton Creek Greenbelt from the infinity pool and in-ground fire pit, features Saltillo tiles indoors, and even has a hidden cave on the grounds.

On This Day

March second’s the date, hip hip hooray: Dr. Seuss was born on this day. To the Austin Public Library, don’t wait up. For fun times reading, you can fill your cup. A child’s first book, a joyful start — a love of reading, straight from the heart.
Voting is open for the European Tree of the Year award, the annual contest that honors the continent’s most lovable tree. The contestants span 12 countries and boast centuries of history within their sprawling branches. A reminder — Austin has its own version of the same competition.

History

Paleontologists recently discovered a new species of Spinosaurus in the Sahara Desert. They believe the dinosaur lived roughly 95 million years ago and weighed up to seven tons. There’s no need to travel across the world to uncover our planet’s history — we have plenty on display at Austin’s museums. (Reuters)

Arts

“Fashion is art.” That’s the dress code for the 2026 Met Gala, which is set for Monday, May 4. Want to join in on the fun? Try this: Turn your favorite painting into couture using pre-loved pieces from Austin’s array of secondhand stores. (Vogue)
