🍽️ Sit down for dinner

Aaron Franklin’s love letter to Midwestern dinners is back for its second year in a row.

Frankie’s Supper Club — a white-tablecloth, family-style dinner — is held every Sunday through February 2026 at Uptown Sports Club. The event is inspired by Milwaukee native Lawrence Frank, who is believed to have inspired the tradition in Beverly Hills in the early 1900s, and Franklin’s love for a weekly service.

The restaurant transforms into a moody, candlelit space offering a special à la carte menu not typically served on Uptown’s menu.

Each service starts with a complimentary glass of prosecco, a relish tray, and a soup or salad. Click below to see our favorites (and prepare to be hungry).

News Notes

Development

The UT board of regents is considering a new location for the upcoming UT Medical Center, which was slated for construction at the former Frank Erwin Center site. The board is now considering a location near The Domain to have access to a larger site for long-term plans. (KXAN)

Civic

Austin City Council approved the amended budget for the 2025-2026 budget, following the rejection of Prop Q. The new budget is still $6.3 billion, with an amended tax rate of ~52 cents per $100, meaning the average homeowner will see a ~$105 increase to their property tax bill. See the amendments.

Opening

Bust out the spray paint, because the long-awaited reopening of HOPE Outdoor Gallery is this Friday, Nov. 28. The new location near the airport already features street art from 30+ artists, 6,000 sqft of gallery event space, and will have giveaways on opening weekend while supplies last. RSVP here.

Coming Soon

A second La La Land Kind Cafe location could be in the works in north Austin, according to filings from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The kindness-forward coffee shop appears to be taking over the former home of Stinson’s, which closed earlier this year, along Burnet Road. (Community Impact)

Edu

The University of Texas system will extend its free tuition program to undergraduate students at its five health institutions. The commitment builds on its existing program, which currently covers tuition for first-time bachelor’s degree students who come from families earning $100,000 or less per year. (KVUE)

Fun Fact

The Zilker Holiday Tree is made up of 3,309 lights, and all of them will shine brightly starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. This year’s tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m. with music from the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble and feature local entertainment and food.

Plan Ahead

A new, LEGO-themed event is coming to Austin next month. The Austin Brick Convention will set up shop Saturday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Palmer Events Center with retired LEGO sets on deck, huge displays, merchants, and brick pits.

Active

Austin Public Health wants you to move your feet as part of its Move Your Way Challenge. Folks can participate by creating a short video of themselves performing their favorite exercise and posting it to social media to help promote mental well-being and prevent chronic health issues.
