It’s that time of year again. Pecan Street Festival returns to the Hill Country Galleria tomorrow, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 14.

Now in its 50th year, the event is one of the largest and longest-running arts and music festivals in the US. Here’s what to expect.
  • Admission and parking are free.
  • A stacked schedule of events features something for everyone, from self-defense classes and yoga sessions to songwriter showcases and two-step country dancing lessons.
  • Twelve musical acts will perform on the Covert Bee Cave Stage, including Austin-based headliners like The Bros Fresh and Jo James.
  • Kids can enjoy carnival rides, art workshops, and plenty of sweet treats.

Local security company CTX Patrol has partnered with an Oregon-based robotics firm to bring AI-powered security robots to Austin neighborhoods. Windsor Park is already home to a robot named Palmer, designed with facial recognition technology and advanced cameras. (KVUE)

Civic

A new initiative to curb graffiti was approved by Austin City Council yesterday. Rather than relying on a property owner to report graffiti, the city will now respond to 3-1-1 complaints and paint over the damage free of charge. (KXAN)

Concert

Hey ya, hey ya. Big Boi from the hip-hop duo OutKast will perform a free concert at 1:15 p.m. tomorrow on UT Austin’s campus. Attendees can also enjoy drink specials like $5 domestic beers.

Seven Greater Austin YMCA locations will open their doors to the public this Saturday, Sept. 13 for “Try The Y” open houses. The free events will allow Austinites to tour the facilities, take group fitness classes, explore kids’ programs, and more.

Over 1,000. That’s how many stairs Austin firefighters climbed in full gear yesterday to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

The climb took place at the Public Safety Wellness Center, where crews ascended the training tower nine times.

The Austin Fire Department’s annual Memorial Stair Climb — which began on Sept. 12, 2001 — is the longest-running tribute of its kind in the US.
