The Hyatt Regency Austin is getting a makeover. The hotel on Lady Bird Lake’s shore began work on a property-wide transformation, including room redesigns and two new dining concepts. The hotel will remain open during renovations, which should be completed by September. Take a first look.
Development
Watch this clip of demolition crews bulldozing down the Austin Convention Center last week. In case you missed it, the convention center is being torn down to make way for a new, $1.6 billion facility that’ll be open by SXSW 2029. (Austin Business Journal)
Transit
Light rail is taking another step forward — the Austin Transit Partnership is seeking a design and construction contract for buildout. Firms can submit qualifications for the multibillion-dollar project through Thursday, July 3, and the contract will be awarded by early 2026. (Austin Business Journal)
Closing
Pour one out for Dear Dry Drinkery. The non-alcoholic bottle shop on East Cesar Chavez Street will permanently close on Sunday, June 22. The small business announced the closure via Instagram, citing economic woes as the culprit. Its remaining inventory (and furniture) will be on sale in the coming weeks.
Environment
Did you notice Lady Bird Lake looks a little cloudy?Crews began pouring a special clay mixture into the water yesterday, marking the final phase of a five-year program to fight toxic algae. More applications are planned for July + August.
