News Notes

Today Is

National Fitness Day, celebrated each year on the first Saturday of May. Get your sweat on at one of these local gyms. If fitness isn’t your thing, it’s also one of our favorite holidays of the year — National Lumpy Rug Day.

Listen

Explore soundscapes around the world with this interactive map. The map features over 7,000 sounds from 130 countries and territories. For Austin, someone uploaded the sound of refrigerators humming in H-E-B.

Eat

Chicken + waffles are back at KFC. The popular combo hasn’t been on the menu in over five years — well, at least not at the fast food chain. We know quite a few local brunch spots where you can find the sweet and savory dish.

Holiday

May the fourth be with you. Tomorrow, May 4 is “Star Wars” Day — a celebration of the beloved space opera. In addition to watching the films, you can observe the occasion by avoiding the Dark Side and being a force for good by performing a local random act of kindness.

Sports

Heads up, baseball fans. Tune in at 1:10 p.m. today to watch the Astros take on the Chicago White Sox, and get the biggest stories every day from the local experts of the Houston Astros with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

City Guide

🎸 The stage is set

A vibrant concert stage illuminated with neon blue, pink, and red lights, featuring a futuristic spaceship-inspired design. A large disco ball resembling a planet with rings hangs in the center, surrounded by a backdrop of glowing lines and space-themed visuals. Performers and musicians are on stage, dressed in colorful outfits, engaging with the crowd. Audience members can be seen in the foreground, capturing the moment with their phones. The atmosphere is lively and electrifying.
Specifically designed for concerts, The Moody Center hosts 150+ nights of entertainment each year. | Photo by ATXtoday
The concert scene in Austin is truly unmatched. From 100-year-old spaces to award-winning arenas, there’s a stage for every type of tune.

To get to know them all, you must do three things: put your hands in the air, wave ‘em like you just don’t care, then lay your eyes (and ears) on our guide.

Moody Center
Austin’s $338 million state-of-the-art arena opened in 2022 and was named Best New Concert Venue in its first year.

The Long Center for the Performing Arts
This fixture on Lady Bird Lake offers orchestral concerts, ballet, and more inside, plus live music on the world’s first 3D-printed stage outdoors.

Emo’s Austin

The Wrap

The image features a name graphic for "Morgan O'Neal," with stylized handwriting in a rich brown color. On the left side, there's a circular portrait of a woman with long, straight hair wearing a leopard-print top. The background behind the portrait is a warm peach color.
