🍴 Keep it in the family

It’s no wonder there are so many repeat chefs and restaurant groups all over the local MICHELIN Guide and James Beard Awards, because it runs in the family.

There are tons of “sister” concepts all over town, so let’s talk about a few groups.

Uchi, Uchiko, and Uchibā

Hai Hospitality’s newest concept, Uchibā, combines the Japanese words for “house” and “bar.”

One could argue that these restaurants — helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef Tyson Cole — are not just sisters, but triplets. You’ll find similar dishes at each, although the specials showcase each spot’s unique flair and Uchibā is the only one of the three that serves lunch.

Odd Duck, Sour Duck Market, and Barley Swine

Brothers and lifelong Austinites Bryce and Dylan Gilmore originally opened Odd Duck in 2009 as a “farm to trailer” food truck with a vision of using only local ingredients. The team lists their food sources on their website and has earned a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand distinction.

The ACL 2025 festival lineup could drop any day now, but we may have already figured it out.

We asked our readers who they thought would be at the festival and they named 63 different bands + artists — here are a few that stood out.

In order of a descending amount of mentions: Post Malone, Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Green Day, Vampire Weekend, Charli xcx, DJO, and Olivia Rodrigo were all named. All of them appear to be possible except Lady Gaga, who will be overseas.

Here are a few more likely predictions that appear to be free during the festival:

• Miley Cyrus
• Lola Young
• Shakira
• Pearl Jam
• Gracie Abrams
• Bleachers
• Clairo
• Megan Moroney
• Kesha
• John Mayer
• Radiohead
• My Chemical Romance
• Stevie Nicks

City Editor Figi here — my formal predictions are Vampire Weekend, Doechii, and MARINA.

We know one band will surely be there: Asleep at the Wheel, because they always perform the first set.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Figi

City Editor Morgan recently told me that I look like Willie Nelson, and honestly, I kinda see it — a lot of people do, actually. The only person who doesn’t (so far) is my mom, who swears I’m a carbon copy of my late grandmother, which I am. Her photo is on the right.

So, what do you think? Do I look like Willie Nelson?
