The NCAA tournament is around the bend, but right now in Austin, it’s all about Spurs Week.

The I-35 Series is back for the second year in a row, and to celebrate, the San Antonio Spurs will bring nine free community events — not including watch parties and activations — to ATX.

This iteration of Spurs Week will be bigger than last year’s, so mark your calendars for Sunday, March 10-Saturday, March 16. In the meantime, let’s break down the party that is Spurs Week. All events are free unless otherwise noted.

Daily events

  • Free turbo, cold brew, or drip coffee for fans from Jo’s Coffee locations, staring 7 a.m. until supplies last

    🗓 A leap in time

Answered: Why there is a Leap Day every four years

Leap Day is upon us, Austinites.

Every four years, we experience a leap year with ~366 days instead of the usual 365. Well, 365.25 days, to be more accurate.

Astronomically long story short — this extra day is added to the calendar every four years to keep it synchronized with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. Without leap years, our calendar would gradually fall out of sync about one-quarter of a day behind the solar year.

Basically, without it, our current calendars would be off by ~501 days — so Feb 28, 2024, would actually be July 13, 2025, or the middle of summer, according to the handy time calculator. Pretty weird, huh?

City Editor Figi poses with an adorable goat.

    From the editor
Austin recently ranked No. 32 in this study on cities where residents don’t get enough sleep, saying ~35% of adults here get less than seven hours of sleep per night.

I’ve got to say, I really cannot relate to this one. A friend of mine recently called me a “vampire” because I put my sleep schedule above all else.
