Should you really drink 8 glasses of water per day?

Since the 1940s, we’ve been told to drink eight glasses of water per day. But drinking beyond thirst dilutes blood electrolyte levels (especially sodium levels), leading to headaches, low energy, cramps, confusion, or worse.
Created by scientists, LMNT has enough sodium, potassium, and magnesium to get you truly hydrated. It has zero sugar and artificial colors — while offering fan-fave flavors like Citrus Salt and Raspberry Salt.
The first round of showcasing artists for SXSW 2024 is here, including dozens of bands from around the world. Expect artists like Reality Club — who hail from Jakarta — and at least 10 from Austin, including Mama Duke and Lord Friday the 13th.
Sports
Talk about a game changer. After selling his first one-of-one Prizm Black Panini America trading card for $102,500 at auction, Arch Manning has decided to donate the proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas.
Number
55,000. That’s how many new apartments are under construction along the I-35 corridor, with another 23,000 apartments proposed and thousands of single-family homes are in the pipeline. View a map of where they’re going. (Austin Business Journal)
Arts
Artists have four days left to submit an application for Tempo on the Trail, a public art program to create pieces along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. The Trail Conservancy will select eight teams, giving each a budget of $25,000. Submit an application.
Community
Spanish- and Vietnamese-speaking Texans can now seek legal help via TexasLawHelp.org. The free service offers every page in both languages to locals who can’t afford traditional legal help.
Watch
The Watcher boys (aka the former hosts of Buzzfeed Unsolved) took over the city last month to try some of Austin’s tastiest bites + bevs. Where did they go? Veracruz All Natural, Tiki Tatsu-Ya and OMG Squee.
Correction
In yesterday’s newsletter, we shared an incorrect date for the upcoming annular solar eclipse. The eclipse will take place at ~11:40 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 14 — don’t forget to pick up some free eclipse glasses.

It has been a long, long time since I’ve dressed up for Halloween. I’d love to do something local as my costume this year, and as much as I could pull off a Liz Lambert costume, I don’t think the kids would get it.
Right now, the top option is Wooderson from “Dazed and Confused.”
