  • 81º | Partly cloudy | 21% chance of rain
Civic
  • Austin City Council voted last week to evaluate the cost and functionality of burying the city’s powerlines. The process, prompted by last month’s winter storm and widespread blackouts, is expected to take several months. (Austin American-Statesman)
  • Parking will no longer be free at three parking lots near Zilker Park. Pay stations requiring fees on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and special events will be activated on Monday, May 1. Affected lots include the ones near Stratford Road, north of Zilker Botanical Garden, and south of Barton Springs Pool.

  • The former Tecovas space on South Congress will be filled by King Ranch Saddle Shop. The location will be the apparel brand’s first Austin store, and is expected to be ~1,500 sqft. (Austin Business Journal)

  • A new slate of high-profile Broadway shows is headed to Austin. Broadway in Austin announced that its 2023-2024 season will include “Six,” Disney’s “Frozen,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Wicked,” among others. (Austin American-Statesman)

The CMT Music Awards take place in Austin this Sunday, April 2 for the first time ever, and the star-studded event is bringing several other happenings to the Capital City.

And guess what? They’re free.

Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban | Wednesday, March 29 | 5:30-10 p.m. | Location TBD | Free | The location for this outdoor performance has yet to be announced, but it will be taped live.

The Black Crowes and Darius Rucker | Friday, March 31 | 7-10 p.m. | Downtown Austin | Free | This concert is also a taping of “CMT Crossroads,” the longest-running show on Country Music Television.

Ram Trucks Side Stage | Saturday, April 1 | 5:30-9 p.m. | San Jacinto Boulevard and East 20th Street | Free | See Nate Smith, Jackson Dean, and Lily Rose at this show.
