$50 million in funding approved for nine affordable housing projects across the city

It’s home sweet homes because the City of Austin’s Housing Department dedicated $50 million to creating nine new affordable housing developments across the city.

These developments will be move-in ready from 2024-2027.

The City of Austin Housing Department approved $50 million worth of funding for nine affordable housing developments last week.

The properties — which total 1,018 rental units and 51 ownership units — will aim to create affordable units for those earning 80% or less than median family income. The developments are expected to open 2024-2027 — here are the highlights.

District 1

Real Gardens , 2824 + 2826 Real St. | $1.1 million allocated | Expected move-in: March 2026
This development will provide 35 rental units for Austinites earning 30% MFI or less, two rental units for 40% MFI or less, and 23 rental units for 50% MFI or less.

Seabrook Square ll , 2210 Pershing Dr. | $7.9 million allocated | Expected move-in: June 2026
This new construction property will offer 60 rental units to households making at or below 30% MFI.

District 2

5900 South Pleasant Valley , 5900 S. Pleasant Valley | $9 million allocated | Expected move-in: September 2025
Here, 19 rental units will be available to households earning 30% MFI or below and 55 units will be available for rent at 50% MFI.

District 3

Cairn Point , 1013 Montopolis Dr. | $6 million allocated | Expected move-in: February 2026
This Montopolis complex will offer 23 rentals for folks earning at or below 30% MFI, 50 rental units for 50% MFI or less, 52 rental units for 60% MFI or less, and 25 units for 80% MFI or less.

Escuela Nueva , 2013 Montopolis Dr. | $9.7 million allocated | Expected move-in: TBD
This complex will provide 20 rental units for 30% MFI or less, 66 rental units for 50% MFI or less, and 28 rental units for 60% MFI or less.

GSNZ 7 Acres West , 2721 Goodwin Ave. | $1.4 million allocated | Expected move-in: TBD
This complex will offer 14 units to own for households earning at or below 60% MFI, and 37 units to own for households earning at or below 80% MFI.

District 7

Balcones Terrace , 10024 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. | $1.6 million allocated | Expected move-in: summer 2024
Funding will be used for conversion of 123 units for folks experiencing homelessness — 31 rental units will be available for households earning 30% MFI or less, 31 rental units will be available for 40% MFI or less, and 61 rental units will be available for 50% MFI or less.

District 8

Sunset Ridge , 8413 Southwest Pkwy. | $8.9 million allocated | Expected move-in: February 2027
Funding will go towards development at this 221-unit complex, where 100 units will be available to rent for households making 50% MFI or less, 76 rental units for 60% MFI or less, and 45 units for 80% MFI or less.

District 9

Mary Lee Square , 1316, 1318, 1322-1324, 1330-1332, and 1340-1342 Lamar Square Dr. | $5.4 million allocated | Expected move-in: October 2025
Funding will be used to acquire and develop 10 buildings, where 88 units will be rented for 30% MFI or less, 64 units will be rented for 50% MFI or less, and 64 units will be available for 60% MFI or less.
