8 Spirit Halloween stores open in the Austin area

The store finds vacant retail spaces and signs temporary leases to set up shop leading up to Halloween — but locations can change each year.

There’s a reason these stores move around so often.

Do you remember the Furniture Row at the Arboretum? What about Forever 21 at Barton Creek Square Mall? Those retail spaces have something in common — they’re currently dressed up as Spirit Halloween stores.

The seasonal chain has converted eight vacant retail spaces in the Austin metro area into Spirit Halloween stores:

  • 2901 S. Capital of Texas Hwy. — formerly Forever 21
  • 730 W. Stassney Lane — formerly Aaron’s Furniture
  • 2900 W.Anderson Lane — formerly Performance Bicycle
  • 9012 Research Blvd., Ste. A — formerly Furniture Row
  • 12901 N. Interstate 35 Frontage Rd., Bldg. 2, Ste. 200 — formerly Party City
  • 2300 Lohmans Spur Rd., Lakeway — formerly Tuesday Morning
  • 11200 Lakeline Mall Dr., Cedar Park — formerly a clothing store
  • 110 N. Interstate Highway 35, Ste. 296, Round Rock — formerly Tuesday Morning

Spirits’ lore

Let’s pull the mask off and learn more. Spirit Halloween finds temporary leases and moves into retail spaces that would otherwise be vacant. This is why there are so many — to the point it’s become a meme — and they might be in different locations next year. The chain is owned by Spencer Gifts LLC, aka that quirky novelty store from the mall.

Local shops

Prefer to shop local? There are many stores with a scary selection of new and pre-owned clothing that can help you create a Halloween costume (or dress you up any day of the year). We recommend:

Or you can take local to the next level with one of these Austin-inspired costumes.
