Matias Segura will officially become Austin ISD’s next superintendent after leading the district in an interim capacity for the last year.

Segura, who is currently completing a program to obtain his required superintendent certification, will step into the role on Thursday, Feb. 15. AISD has been without a permanent superintendent since June 2022, when former superintendent Stephanie Elizalde left the position.

A graduate of Bowie High School, Segura has a long history with AISD. Before taking the position of interim superintendent, Segura acted as operations chief for the district and oversaw the rollout of the $1.7 billion bond package that passed in 2017.

Segura’s contract lasts until August 2028, and includes an annual salary of $362,250.
