First annual Freeze Week sends a chill over Austin

If you haven’t been to these local bars, now’s the time to break the ice.

Brain freeze warning. It may be hot in Austin, but local bars are bundling up for a cool celebration: the city’s first annual Freeze Week.

Presented by Campari, the event runs Monday, Aug. 5-Sunday, Aug. 11 and 10 watering holes are participating. Grab a punch card at any of the stops, then drink a frozen cocktail at each establishment to earn a limited edition T-shirt.

In addition to specialty drinks, many of the venues are hosting parties throughout the week. Here are your stops on the icy adventure:

Kinda Tropical, 3501 E. 7th St. | Don’t get cold feet — bask in the sun on this east Austin oasis’ outdoor patio.

Holiday, 5020 E. 7th St. | We’re excited to see what the “home of the original frozen Mexican martini” has in store.

Kitty Cohen’s, 2211 Webberville Rd., Ste. #3528 | Let’s pretend this bar’s pool is a cold plunge this week.

Sunny’s Backyard, 3526 E. 7th St. | Expect events like “The Office” trivia, movie nights, and live music.

Hotel Vegas + Volstead, 1502 E. 6th St. | A frozen concoction at either of these bars will get you a punch — they’re coupled up together on the card.

The Long Goodbye, 2808 Manor Rd. | Go on Tuesday for $2 off tacos all day.

Yellow Jacket Social Club, 1704 E. 5th St. | Come for the frozen cocktail and stay for a salad, sandwich, or Frito pie.

Tweedy’s Bar, 2908 Fruth St., Unit #101 | Thaw out at this spot near UT Austin’s campus with tons of outdoor seating.

High Noon, 2000 E. Cesar Chavez St. | This week may be all about chill vibes, but this bar’s dance floor heats up.

Low Down Lounge, 1412 E. 6th St., Ste. #3304 | This may be more surprising than a cold front in August: this bar’s happy hour runs until 8 p.m. every day.
