City Editor Morgan here. I’ve just returned from a weekend trip to Fredericksburg: a charming wine-centric town located about an hour and a half west of Austin.

There’s plenty to explore in the wine country, but I’m here to share my favorite places to help inform your next getaway.

Das Peach Haus

Though it’s located near the heart of the town, this destination will make you feel like you’re tucked away in a nature-filled escape. Order a $20 wine tasting and enjoy it in a rocking chair by the lake.

The WineYard at Ferris and Fletch Wine Co.

When you spot the bluebonnet mural on Main Street, follow it to this tasting room’s airy backyard oasis where you can try six wines for $30 per person.

The Standard Public House

The “red-ish” wine shines at this French + American restaurant that sources seasonal ingredients from local farms.

Martini’s Seafood House

A spread of seafood, featuring bowls and plates filled with flavorful dishes. A generous bowl holds a seafood boil of crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, and potatoes, all seasoned to perfection. Another plate displays a serving of crab legs paired with asparagus and drawn butter, while a rich, creamy lobster mac and cheese sits nearby, garnished with parsley.

A meal at Martini’s is a seafood lover’s dream.

If you take only one recommendation from this list, let it be Martini’s. Oysters are always being shucked in the front window, the drinks are divine, and the fresh seafood will make you feel like you’re in a coastal town.

Stumble into this store between winery visits (or while you’re waiting for your dinner table) to find a holiday wonderland of decor, gifts, and hundreds of ornaments. I left with a Santa Claus blowing bubblegum.

Hill & Vine

I’ve never been disappointed by a meal at Hill & Vine, but go during brunch for prickly pear mimosas, a peach pie cinnamon roll, Texas-sized biscuits and gravy, and the fried egg sandwich.

Elk Store Winery & Distillery

Steeped in history, this bar and tasting room specializes in moonshine and serves late-night eats in a moody atmosphere.
