The weather is warming, the wildflowers are blooming, and the kids are getting antsy. Austin parents, you know what that means: it’s almost spring break.
In case the calendar snuck up on you, spring break for Austin ISD + other local districts is next week, from March 14-18.
To keep the kiddos busy this year, here are eight things to do with children around Austin.
Hit the “skies”
Is your child a thrill-seeker? iFLY Indoor Skydiving will give your family the chance to practice skydiving with an instructor inside a vertical wind tunnel. The location at 13265 N. US 183 is open all week — book two flights per person starting at $64.99.
Learn some Texas history
Did you know Texas’ State Capitol is taller than the US Capitol? Learn more fun facts on a tour of the 130-year-old building. Explore on your own or jump into a free guided tour — find available times online.
Meet some animals 🐯
The Austin Zoo started as a goat ranch several decades ago, but after taking in several animals who needed a home, that ranch became the Austin Zoo in 1994. Today, the space houses rescued animal species ranging from tigers to monkeys. Children’s tickets begin at $13.95.
Explore the Austin Public Library 📚
Signing up for a library card + checking out free reading materials isn’t all you can do at the Austin Public Library. The downtown location also hosts an art gallery with works from local artists, a Cookbook Bar and Cafe, and 13 floors of shared learning rooms.
Catch a show
Whether your child is 2 or 12, there are plenty of events around ATX to keep them entertained. Younger kiddos might enjoy the Small Wonders Puppet Show at Pease Park on March 12, while pre-teen readers may learn from BookPeople’s kids book club on March 19 — the group will discuss “The Mighty Heart of Sunny St. James.”
Hanging with the kids is fun, but don’t forget about setting aside some time for yourself. From concerts to comedy shows, find dozens of events taking place this month on our March calendar. 🗓️
