A takeout sushi spot called Foodie & Tina, an omakase concept that began as a pop-up, is slated to open a brick-and-mortar on South Lamar Boulevard in June. The husband-and-wife owners will use fish from local vendor Minamoto Foods and plan to operate as sustainably as possible. (Austin Business Journal)
Legacy
Beloved Austin musician Jon Dee Graham died last week at age 67. His son William, who often performed alongside him, posted a tribute on Instagram, thanking The Paramount Theater for honoring Graham on the marquee.
Eat
Order up. Magnolia Cafe is the most iconic diner in Texas, according to Reader’s Digest. We can’t say we’re surprised — the local staple has been dishing up delicious Tex-Mex bites since 1979. If you’re hungry for more, check out our guide to the Capital City’s newest restaurants.

Did you know Texas was the first state to plant flowers along the highway?
The Wildflower Program was created in 1932 not only to beautify your commute, but also to stabilize soil, provide reliable ground cover, and reduce maintenance and litter along roadways.
TxDOT sows about 30,000 pounds of wildflower seeds annually in observation of the program. The flowers also allow workers to mow along the highways less frequently, which provides habitats for 900+ animal species.
These efforts were lauded by Lady Bird Johnson, who provided grants to TxDOT for its work and spearheaded the Highway Beautification Act of 1965 to help make the initiative more widespread across the nation.
