Pro tip: Grab some Tex-Mex made with family recipes at Mama Betty’s before you stop in for a nightcap at Foxtail. | Photos by ATXtoday
Carrier5 Hospitality will debut a new bar in north Austin today: a cocktail lounge called Foxtail. Figi here — I got a sneak peek of the space on Burnet Road.
Inside, the very first thing that caught my eye was a nostalgic video projection of Austin sights, including Sandy’s Hamburgers, Jo’s Coffee, and bridges over Lady Bird Lake.
My favorite cocktails were the “Foxolada,” a slightly less sweet take on a piña colada, and the “Ristretto Martini,” a cold brew-forward espresso martini.
Psst — the same group’s second Mama Betty’s Tex-Mex location will also open right next door today.
ATX was treated to a rare sight earlier this week. The Northern Lights were visible in 21 states due to a geomagnetic storm, causing a dazzling pink glow over Austin. Check out these photos from Austinites. (Austin American-Statesman)

Is Matthew McConaughey considering running for governor again? That’s the question folks are asking on TikTok after seeing a set with signs reading “McConaughey for Governor” at the Long Center earlier this week.
The A-lister said in September that he won’t seriously consider running for political office until his children are out of the house.
The set could be part of McConaughey’s upcoming TV show with Woody Harrelson, “Brothers,” where the pair plays themselves. Psst — they were also likely filming at Home Slice earlier this week.
