Every day, we write ATXtoday with one goal: to help you feel more connected to your city. And we’re not alone — our friends across the US, from Seattle to Tampa Bay, do the same for our 6AM City communities.

We believe in the power of local media to keep the community informed, engaged, and excited about where they live. That’s why our newsletter is and will remain free.

How do we make it sustainable?

We partner with national brands and some of Austin’s best organizations + businesses that support our mission of bringing only good news to your inbox. But we also rely on reader support.

News Notes

Civic

After voters rejected Prop Q, City of Austin staff will present a revised budget proposal to City Council tomorrow. The new draft raises property taxes by 3.5%, uses $14.1 million from Austin’s savings account for social services, and cuts $6.3 million of the original proposal from Emergency Medical Services. (Austin American-Statesman)

Announced

The first wave of SXSW musicians is here. The announcement included 100 artists: The All-American Rejects, Bayonne, Matt McClure, and tons of local musicians. Peruse the lineup.
Austin’s own Matthew McConaughey stopped by Home Slice Pizza for a photo with the restaurant’s mascot, Slicey. The restaurant appeared to be filming something, possibly for its 20th anniversary carnival this weekend.

Watch

Drew and Jonathan Scott, aka the Property Brothers, made Austin real estate the subject of their latest YouTube video. Watch the brothers guess the prices of five homes in the Capital City.

Real Estate

Speaking of property, the Home Buying Institute released its 2026 forecast for the Austin-Round Rock Housing Market. HBI predicted that home prices will continue to fall, declining mortgage rates could bring buyers back, and 2025 market conditions will likely persist for the first part of 2026.

Community

Crux Climbing Center will join forces with Switchback Coffee & Beer and Granny’s Tacos when it opens its south Austin location next year. The new space, which comes after the closure of its Pickle Road gym, will also feature 48-ft climbing walls, fitness classes, and bouldering. (CultureMap)

Opening

A new cafe and crepery called Lumi’s Crepes & Coffee will host its grand opening celebration in Cedar Park this Saturday, Nov. 15. Expect Belgian waffles, sweet + savory crepes, and paninis. (Community Impact)

The Wrap

I’ve been trying to learn golf for the last few months — in fact, I even took a lesson at my local Topgolf — but hundreds of swings and minimal improvement later, I’m having a hard time remembering why I wanted to do this in the first place. Got any tips for a newbie? Send them my way.
