🍕 A slice of Austin history

Home Slice Pizza will celebrate 20 years in business this week.

In celebration of the iconic parlor’s vicennial year, ATXtoday chatted with Joseph Strickland about the early days of Home Slice and how Jen Scoville Strickland — his wife and business partner— became the “Queen of Pies.”

After moving out to Austin in the ‘90s, Joseph said Jen began missing the pies of her youth, so she started making it at home.

“It was immediately better than anything we could get out, we felt,” Joseph said. “Then pretty quickly [...] she started talking about wanting to open a pizza shop.”

The couple lived near South Congress Avenue when it came time to open their shop, so when the building along the famous strip came on the rental market, it was kismet.

The early years were a “whirlwind” of excitement, especially when Home Slice ended up in movies like “Death Proof” and “Chef.”

To say thanks for two decades of love from the Austin community, the Home Slice family is bringing back the Carnival O’ Pizza this Saturday, Nov. 15.

Put on your “Suit & Tie,” because entertainer Justin Timberlake and restaurateur Sam Fox plan to open a “dapper as hell” live music hall and club in Downtown Austin.

The Twelve Thirty Club, which has a flagship location in Nashville, is expected to begin its $30 million construction project directly across the street from Procore Tower in early 2026 and open late 2027.

The 35,000-sqft building — 10,000 sqft larger than the Nashville location — will have four floors: one for all-day dining and entertainment called The Supper Club, a nightlife and DJ hall called The Speakeasy, a private members club called Honorary Member, and a private events space on the top floor.

Once it opens, the food and beverage program will feature cocktails + dishes inspired by the Capital City. Look inside Nashville’s club.
