LEONA Botanical Café & Bar — an urban garden + restaurant from the teams behind Veracruz All Natural and DEE DEE — opens on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

It sits on a five-acre site turned nature habitat where you’ll find a cafe and bar, mini versions of Veracruz and DEE DEE, and an upcoming Bun Bun Burger collaborative concept from both restaurants.

Here’s what I recommend ordering.
  • The pineapple mint agua fresca was refreshing and perfectly sweet (try this: Add tequila to spice it up).
  • DEE DEE’s fried papaya salad may make it onto my list of favorite dishes in town.
  • Veracruz’s “Tostada Furiousa” is a delicious and flavorful vegetarian dish.

News Notes

Civic

This year’s special election is in the books. Polling closed yesterday at 7 p.m. — check real-time results here. (Austin American-Statesman)

Opening

Tancho Sushi + Sake will debut a second location in central Austin’s Rosedale area on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The restaurant, which is known for its “omakase for everyone” ranging from $29 to $59, will seat 75 people at its new location. (CultureMap)

Traffic

Next time you’re sitting in traffic, think about this: Roadway congestion has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, according to the 2025 Urban Mobility Report. Traffic is still about 10% lower when compared to 2019, but it’s getting worse. Traffic increased by ~6% from 2023 to 2024. (Austin Business Journal)

Festival

Marc Maron, Leslie Jones, Kathy Griffin, and Brad Williams. Those are just a few of the first wave of headliners announced for Moontower Comedy Festival’s 2026 edition. Badgeholder presale for the April festival begins on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Travel

Viva Aerobus’s planned route between Austin and Mexico City, which was slated to begin later this month, will no longer be able to launch. The cancellation is a result of an order from the U.S. Transportation Secretary stating that Mexican airlines can’t carry both passengers and cargo at once. (KXAN)

State

If you have old tech collecting dust around the house, the Texas Archive of the Moving Image wants it. TAMI put out an “Equipment Round-Up” call yesterday, asking for VCRs, 1-inch decks, hard drives, and more to help preserve its footage. (KXAN)

Outdoors

If you’re reading this before 7:19 a.m., it’s not too late. The year’s second supermoon hits its peak illumination this morning at 7:19 a.m. — so look up. We think you’ll get a kick out of its name.

Stay hungry, my friends, because we want to do Thanksgiving Austin-style this year.

That’s why we’re asking our readers — at-home chefs and local restaurants alike — to share some of their favorite dishes to cook on Turkey Day. With your help, we can give everyone something to be thankful for: a vetted recipe book full of your food.

Before you submit, here are a few notes:
  • Don’t forget to add your name (or the restaurant you’re submitting on behalf of) so we can properly credit the recipes.
  • Make sure to include the name, and a photo if you have one, of the recipe.
  • Send this form to someone whose recipe you’d like to see included.

Asked

Calling all home chefs and restaurateurs — share your favorite Thanksgiving recipe with us.

We want to see what makes your table tick and help your fellow readers spice up their holiday spread.

The Wrap

I live in north Austin, so hearing that Tancho is opening a bit closer to me is huge news. If you haven’t tried its sushi yet, put it on your list.

I love that you don’t need a reservation, you can get omakase delivered or to-go, and you can get a really nice meal without breaking the bank.
