Knock knock — it’s time for your monthly installment of reader-recommended local businesses.

Austinites are so good at supporting local that USA Today named the Capital City the best city in the US to start a business last year. In honor of our many movers and shakers, we’re sharing local shops, studios, services, and stays that readers like you love.

Health + Wellness

Pure Pilates Austin
There are three boutique Lagree studios where you can take 45-minute classes to strengthen and tone your body. Psst — try two classes for $34 or 10 classes for $180 if you’re a first-timer.

News Notes

Number

59. That’s how many years the Zilker Holiday Tree has lit up the night sky in ATX. Austin Energy began setting up the annual tree, which is built around one of Austin’s famous moontowers, yesterday morning. Fun fact: the tree is made with over 3,300 lights. (KXAN)

Open

Manor’s first H-E-B store opens today. The 101,000-sqft store (which is about 30,000 sqft bigger than the typical H-E-B), gave out gift cards and swag to the first folks inside the store when it opened at 6 a.m.

Learn

Around 136,713 tons of trash were collected via curbside in Austin last year — but where did it all go? For Travis County residents, most of it goes to the 2,300-acre Texas Disposal Systems Landfill in Creedmoor, but the City of Austin hopes to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills by 90% by the year 2040. (Austin American-Statesman)

Cause

Austin FC’s 4ATX Foundation debuted a mini soccer pitch at Dailey Middle School in Del Valle last week. It’s the 10th mini-pitch and 12th soccer space overall to be created by 4ATX and partners since 2019.

Ranked

Austin is the No. 1 best college town in the US, according to a new ranking from WalletHub. The Capital City’s large amount of schools in the area, low unemployment rate, excellent entertainment scene, and tuition prices gave it the edge up.

Sports

Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens make up a “dangerous” offensive line in the NFL, and it could lead to a turning point for the Cowboys. Get the biggest stories every day from the local experts of the Dallas Cowboys with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Listen

With fall comes local-favorite festivals + live music (catch us at Tame Impala). Luckily, these hearing aids are the world’s first with multi-stream processing, designed to help you engage in conversations effortlessly (even in noisy environments). Explore a no-risk trial.*

Home

They’re fully licensed and insured with 1,100+ five-star reviews. Book a free estimate and mention ATXtoday for 20% off for a limited time.*

Post of the Day

More Home Slice Pizza along South Congress Avenue is back open after a fire broke out in the shop’s vents on Sunday evening.

No one was injured, and you can celebrate with one of Austin’s favorite slices.
