You know what they say, Austin: Everything’s bigger in Texas — and the Red River Showdown is no exception.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting Room is celebrating the annual clash between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners in true game day fashion, with:
Georgetown is one of the top 30 most desirable suburbs in the US, and No. 3 in Texas, according to a new study. The city of ~100,000 residents is also one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. (CultureMap)
List
Yelp’s “Top 100 Taco Spots 2025” list named four Austin restaurants, including Paprika ATX at No. 3. Cuantos Tacos, CJ’s Tacos, and Tacos La Catrina also made the list, and Austin was the only Texas city to have a restaurant in the top 10.
Environment
The City of Austin will release a school of sterile grass carp in Lake Austin sometime this fall. The fish will be used to control the population of hydrilla, an invasive plant that currently occupies about 30% of space in the lake and can potentially cause flooding. (KXAN)

Warning: This news might make you nostalgic. A free Blockbuster location is now open in San Antonio’s My Weekend World Events Center. However, you don’t have to leave the city to find a free Blockbuster, as there are two in south Austin and one in east Austin. (MySA)

Who will be “Sally” next weekend? | Photo by Izzy Nuzzo for ACL Festival
Another ACL Weekend One has come and gone, and even if you were roaming festival grounds from open to close each day (like I was), there was no way to see it all.
Let’s rewind and reminisce on some of the most iconic moments from opening weekend.
Hilary Duff was Role Model’s “Sally”
Speculation over who would join the singer during “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” — during which a fan or guest is usually chosen to dance onstage as “Sally” — ran the gamut from Taylor Swift to Glen Powell. Fans were instead treated to a cameo from the “Lizzie McGuire” actress, whose sister lives in Austin.
Sabrina Carpenter brought Shania Twain onstage + arrested Joe Keery
The pop star’s headlining set — which came with a parental advisory warning — was extremely eventful and laden with rumors that Taylor Swift would join her. Instead, Carpenter brought Shania Twain out for a duet rendition of “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

I got to meet so many fun people over the first weekend of ACL Festival this year, including a reader named Dory, who told me she looks forward to reading ATXtoday every morning. The quickest way to make me smile is to tell me you subscribe.
