The Live Music Capital of the World officially has a new live music venue in the works at southeast Austin’s River Park.
AEG Presents broke ground on a 65,000-sqft venue in the 109-acre River Park development, which is off of East Riverside Drive, on Wednesday morning. Officials said the project will be “purpose-built” for concerts, conferences, and private events like weddings.
The yet-to-be-named venue will also have a capacity of 4,000 people. To put that in perspective, ACL Live at the Moody Theater has a capacity of 2,750, Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater caps at 2,500, and the Moody Amphitheater can handle 5,000.
Developers expect the venue to open in early 2027.

Austin may be younger than 200 years old, but that’s still plenty of time to fill out some history books.
Figi here. I get a kick out of finding and reading historical marker plaques around town, so let’s look back in the history books.
Michael Paggi House | Erected in 1980
Now a gallery space on the grounds of The Loren at Lady Bird Lake, this house was built prior to the Civil War and owned by Italy native and entrepreneur Michael Paggi. The home remained in the extended family for ~100 years, but fell into disrepair and was slated for demolition in the 1970s, until it was purchased by a development group.
From there, the house received historic designation in 1980 and opened as a restaurant called The Paggi House the same year. The restaurant remained open until 2014, when it closed down due to condo construction changing the nearby landscape.
