News Notes

Matthew McConaughey’s Austin home is more than just alright, alright, alright — it’s a bonafide lakeside oasis. Nicknamed “The Old Oak Mansion,” the abode spans 10,000 sqft, sports Lake Austin access, and features a rustic Spanish-Mediterranean design. (Style Rave)

Civic

A fire broke out at an apartment complex in The Domain on Tuesday, causing damage to 28 units and a handful of businesses. Repairs are expected to cost $4.5 million, and the fire is believed to have been accidental. (KXAN)

List

Lao’d Bar and P Thai’s Khao Man Gai & Noodles are two of the best restaurants in the US, according to the “The Restaurant List 2025” by the New York Times. Only four Texas restaurants made the cut, including one from San Antonio and one from Houston.

Award

This is your sign to visit the Cedar Park Public Library. The public sanctuary (which debuted in November) is the Urban Land Institute Austin’s “Best Public Space” of 2025. EastVillage, Pathways at Chalmers Courts, and the Rainey Street Trailhead were also in the running. (Community Impact)

Real Estate

Thinking about buying a house? Austin is now a buyer’s market, according to Zillow and Realtor.com. Plus, the Federal Reserve just announced its first rate cut in nine months. (CultureMap)

Development

New York-based hospitality group Delaware North purchased the Cactus Moon Lodge in Dripping Springs. The group plans to extend the 23-acre wedding venue’s business year-round.

Sports

The Spurs could get a new arena with Project Marvel. Get the biggest stories every day from the local experts of the San Antonio Spurs with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Show

Road trip, anyone? “Peter Pan” is flying to the stage at Dallas’ Winspear Opera House Friday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 21. This isn’t your typical tale — it’s better. Pro tip: Snag a season pass for VIP perks (think: the best seats, exclusive savings, behind-the-curtain experiences, and more).*

Pro Tip

Are you really making the most of your Prime membership? Here are nine Amazon Prime benefits you may not know about, all vetted by Brad’s Deals experts.*

Health

Thanks to House Bill 46, Texans with chronic pain now qualify for medical cannabis under the Compassionate Use Program. The bill also allows cannabis products to be offered in new forms, including inhalers + nebulizers. Check your eligibility and unlock a limited-time offer.*

Biz

Why are the same firms that backed Uber, Venmo, and eBay also backing Pacaso (Nasdaq ticker reserved: $PCSO)? Because it’s disrupting the $1.3 trillion vacation home market with co-ownership, already earning $110 million+ in gross profit in under five years. (And until midnight, you can join the 10,000+ shareholders.)‡*

Have you seen this trend sharing love for the stereotypical sweeping your for you page?

Figi here — I can’t help but agree with a few of these. I’m a sucker for ACL flag pics, watching the bats, and trying new restaurants.

Lately, I’ve been watching tons of Nardwuar interviews, because as a fellow music enthusiast and journalist, I love his interviewing style. I especially love the interviews he does in Austin for SXSW — check out this one with Austin-based artist Quin NFN at SXSW.
