Mendelssohn and Brahms | 7:30 p.m. | Arts on Alexander | $40 | The Philharmonie Austin Chamber Players will perform Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat major and Brahms’ Sextet No. 1 in B-flat major.
The Front Festival 2025 | Thursday, Aug. 28-Sunday, Aug. 31 | Multiple Locations | $13+ | This end-of-summer festival will feature independent music, film, and art across local venues like the LINE Hotel Austin pool + Antone’s Nightclub.
Friday, Aug. 29
“Little Shop of Horrors” | Friday, Aug. 29-Sunday, Sept. 14 | Times vary | Genesis Creative Collective | $25+ | Meet the Mean Green Mother From Outerspace, a demonic dentist, and an unsuspecting gardener in this hit musical.
Austin-based musician Mama Duke is heading to the “America’s Got Talent” finals after Mel B gave her the Golden Buzzer on Tuesday night’s episode. Mama Duke performed an original song called “The Mama Duke Show,” which was highly praised — even by Simon Cowell.
Coming Soon
Buckle up — Austin’s first roller coaster is nearly complete at COTALAND Theme Park. Circuit Breaker, a tilt coaster, is now in the testing phase after crews installed the “last bolt” yesterday morning. (KXAN)

Now that the weather is preparing to cool down, it’s time to get outside. The Austin Parks Foundation’s fall In The Park series schedule is here, including tons of fitness classes, children’s playdates, and movie nights.

The Austin area is home to eight of the top 20 barbecue restaurants in Texas, according to a new ranking from The Infatuation. By the way, you can find them all in our barbecue guide.

1,720. That’s how many acres of land the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department purchased to create the new Bear Creek State Park along the Frio River. Since January, Texas has added 6,800 acres of new parkland, marking the biggest boom in park space since the 1980s. (CultureMap)
