A renovation + restoration of The Driskill — aka Austin’s oldest hotel — will begin this fall. The two-phase project will fix up the 110 Tower Guest Rooms, fitness center, hotel lobby, staircase, and add a new cocktail bar and lounge called The Victorian. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2026.

The Free Furniture Market will return for the fourth year in a row in time for UT Austin’s annual move-out event. The market will be open 6:30-8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 26-Thursday, July 31 at the Whitaker Courts Parking Lot.

JetBlue Airways will reintroduce its nonstop flight between Austin and Fort Lauderdale. Starting in late November, the flight will run twice per day. Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines also run a direct flight between the cities. (KXAN)
Opening
Mini-golf company PopStroke (which is co-owned by Tiger Woods) will open this September and take over operations at The Pitch after a summer of renovations. The redesign + opening will debut a new ice cream parlor, two new volleyball courts, an E-sports gaming space, and of course, an 18-hole mini-golf course. (Community Impact)

Ryan Leugers of Maudie’s Tex Mex was named Greater Austin Restaurateur of the Year at the Texas Restaurant Awards earlier this week. Brian Breach of The Greek Bar was also a finalist for the Rising Star Award, which makes us want some keftedes with a margarita.
