News Notes

Ranked

Austin’s own Jim’s Smokehouse and T-Loc’s Sonora Hot Dogs made the top 10 of Yelp’s “Top 100 Food Trucks in the U.S. of 2025" list. ATX eateries took up nine spots on the list — Paprika ATX, Granny’s Tacos, and Boteco were also mentioned.

Watch

Are you caught up on the first season of NBC’s new reality show “Destination X”? If not, you may want to tune in to see Austinites Mack Fitzgerald, and Ally Bross compete to figure out where in the world the show has taken them on the “road trip of a lifetime.” (KXAN)

Number

~50,000. That’s how many fans attended the BLAST.tv Counter-Strike Major at the Moody Center last weekend. The e-sports tournament is expected to have had a $30 million impact on the local economy. (KVUE)

Pets

Keep Austin Adopting — that’s what the local shelters want to do ahead of the Fourth of July. Austin Pets Alive!, Austin Animal Center, Austin Humane Society, and more shelters will host “name your price” sales this weekend to meet a goal of adopting out 250 pets. (KXAN)

Outdoors

Hammerhead worms are back in Central Texas. The invasive species can cause a rash upon contact, so don’t touch them. Officials say they should be killed with vinegar or salt, should you find one in your yard. (Austin American-Statesman)

Weather

After a slightly hotter-than-average June, July is poised to bring the heat. July is typically Austin’s second-warmest month (just behind August), and is also forecast to be hotter + drier than usual. We want you to guess how many 100º days Austin will see this year. (KXAN)

Sports

Texas Football QB commit Dia Bell was named MVP at the Elite 11 QB Camp. Get the biggest stories every day from the local experts of the Texas Longhorns with Locked On’s daily podcasts.
