News Notes

Festival

This is not a drill — the 2025 ACL Festival lineup will be released at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6. Three-day tickets for both weekends will go on sale at 12 p.m. the same day. Will any of your lineup predictions come true? Only time will tell.

Coming Soon

Bojangles, a North Carolina-based fried chicken chain, has four Austin-area locations in the works. Its first restaurant in Manor is set to open by the end of the year. Georgetown and Round Rock locations are scheduled to debut in 2026, and the Liberty Hill restaurant’s opening date is yet to be determined. (Austin Business Journal)

Theater

Zach Theater has a fresh new look. Previously named ZACH Theatre, the performing arts hub unveiled its new name and logo alongside a five-year strategic plan. Its goals include investing in facility improvement, growing its training programs, developing new plays + musicals, and creating new education programs.

Travel

WestJet will no longer launch a nonstop route between Austin and Vancouver due to a “downward shift in demand” for travel. The new direct service was previously set to debut in May, but don’t fret, there are plenty of other nonstop routes out of AUS. (KXAN)

Drink

Cheers to 10 years. Zilker Brewing Company is celebrating a decade of business by introducing spirit-based cocktails to its East 6th Street taproom for the first time. The new lineup of libations — including margaritas, palomas, mules, and frozen cocktails — is available now.

Number

$101 million. That’s how much money the city of Austin needs to fund services for the city’s homeless population next year, according to Homeless Strategy Office Director David Gray. Discussions surrounding next year’s city budget will begin in July, and the final budget is expected to be adopted in August. (KUT)

Sports

Dreaming of a tropical getaway? Turn it into reality when you shop Hawaiian Airlines’ sale on select fares, like $291 from ATX to The Aloha State.*

Biz

Did you miss the chance to feature your business’s product or service in today’s feature of the 2025 Parents’ Gift Guide? Don’t worry — you can still secure your spot in time for Father’s Day. Bonus: Use code PGG2025 for 20% at checkout.

Pets

$5,000. That’s how much you may have to drop if your dog or cat tears their ACL — a surprisingly common knee injury in pets. To the rescue: pet insurance. With this plan, 90% of that cost could be reimbursed.*

Stat

540,000+. That’s how many customers choose this hearing aid when it comes time to make that decision for their loved ones. See why.*

Finance

Last chance to invest in the “Uber of mobile phones.” Mode Mobile grew 32,481% from 2019-2022, and just secured their Nasdaq ticker with plans for a potential IPO. The opportunity to invest at $0.26/share closes today.*

🍹 Sip, sip, hooray

Two hands hold up identical yellow cocktails in short, clear, textured glasses filled with ice. The drinks are garnished with dried orange wheels on the rim and have a chili-lime spice blend coating the upper glass edges. Each cocktail contains a brown paper straw. The hand on the left has dark red painted nails and wears multiple colorful beaded bracelets in pink, turquoise, and purple tones. The hand on the right has a pale pink manicure and wears a delicate silver chain bracelet. In the background, tall green ornamental grasses line a stone-paved outdoor area. A round wooden table and woven-back patio chairs are partially visible.
