Confituras Little Kitchen, a jam and biscuit shop at 2129 Goodrich Ave., closed its brick-and-mortar location yesterday after six years in business. Don’t fret — you’ll still be able to find its locally sourced preservatives at the Barton Creek Farmers Market.

Stat

Austinites spend more of their income on rent now than in previous years, according to a new study by Harvard University. Over half of Austin renters spend more than 30% of their paychecks on rent and utilities, a ~4% increase from 2022. (KUT)

Environment

When you’re ready to be rid of your all-natural holiday tree, be sure to recycle it at one of the city’s 38th Annual Holiday Tree Recycling events. Curbside customers of the City of Austin can also leave their trees on the curb starting on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Edu

Austin Community College bought the historic Ford building in downtown Lockhart to serve as its new ACC Lockhart campus. The 20,000 sqft property was purchased for $2.8 million. Officials are currently planning the building’s redevelopment, and an opening date is yet-to-be determined. (Austin American-Statesman)

The Round Rock Public Library’s ball python Rocksssanne will retire on Saturday, March 1, following a series of farewell events next year. The ssslithering sssuperstar, who frequents storytimes and local schools, was adopted by the library in 2000 and will turn 28 years old in January. (KXAN)

There’s a new app in town. Mozi lets you know when you’re in the same city or at the same event as other friends. For instance, f you’re headed to the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar (or any other winter events), you can use the app to meet up with other people you know who’ll be there.
