Books aren’t the only thing you can check out at the library.
Austin residents can pick up a library card for the low, low price of free, while non-residents can get an eCard for $22. Here’s what that lovely little card can get you.
Technology
You probably already know that the library has free Wi-Fi, but did you know you can take the connection home with you? APL allows cardholders to check out laptops, tablets, and Wi-Fi hotspots for up to three weeks.

Tools and learning
Trying to learn a new language? Access Mango Language for free and get support on 70+ languages — including 20 ESL programs. Homework tutors are available from 2 to 11 p.m. through Brainfuse HelpNow.
Entertainment
For the film buffs who can’t find their favorite flick on streaming sites, the library’s digital portal offers thousands of movies, documentaries, and TV shows. Through Electric LadyBird, even Austinites without a library card can stream local music.

Development
The I-35 bridge over Lady Bird Lake is getting an upgrade to the tune of $746 million from the Texas Department of Transportation. The contract — which is part of the I-35 Capital Express project — will reconstruct over two miles, an eight-lane bridge, and a new intersection at Riverside Drive. (KXAN)

Austin City Council approved $3.6 million in funding for the newly reinstated “I Belong in Austin” program, which helps cover costs of rent, relocation, and eviction prevention for residents who make 50% or less of the median family income. Applications for the program are open until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. (Community Impact)
Opening
House Park Bar-B-Q will reignite its flame after being closed for four years. The restaurant — which originally opened in 1943 — closed in 2020 due to a fire. Head to the grand opening party from 11 a.m. until sold out on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 900 W. 12th St.
Eat
Churros, and croquettes, and coffee, oh my. San Ginés, a cafe and restaurant from Madrid, will open in the Zilker neighborhood on Friday, Nov. 15. The spot will feature a menu of churros with a variety of toppings, paella, chocolate sourced from Spain, coffee, and croissants. (Eater Austin)
