Although sweater weather hasn’t arrived quite yet, autumn is here. For Austinites, that means there’s a lot to look forward to, including fall festivities, holiday happenings, live performances, and sports games.
Without further ado, it’s time to pull out your calendar and plan your favorite fall yet.

Four of Austin’s five mayoral candidates will discuss the city’s most pressing issues at a forum from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Hosted by Austin PBS and the LBJ School of Public Affairs’ Urban Lab, the forum is free to attend (with RSVP) or view via livestream.
Opening
The first Austin location of Nando’s Peri-Peri will arrive in the Mueller neighborhood in late November. Located on the Origin Hotel’s ground floor, the South African restaurant will serve its signature chicken in salads, wraps, bowls, and sandwiches. (Eater Austin)

Austin Regional Clinic broke ground on a new facility in south Austin last week. The 65,000-sqft medical campus, which will include a new ambulatory surgical center and specialty clinic, is anticipated to open in early 2026. (Austin-American Statesman)
Coming Soon
Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches will soon be home to a new food truck: Parish Barbecue. Helmed by pitmaster and Interstellar BBQ general manager Holden Fulco, the barbecue pop-up restaurant’s first food truck will arrive in January 2025. (Eater Austin)

Speaking of fall events... The Trail Conservancy’s free fall fitness series is back. In partnership with TruFusion and Friggin Fit, TrailFit will provide Pilates, bootcamp, barre, and yoga classes at Auditorium Shores at no cost for Austinites. View the schedule and RSVP.

All that and dim sum? RedFarm, an upscale Chinese restaurant in Downtown Austin, will celebrate its inaugural Dumpling Week Thursday, Sept. 26-Thursday, Oct. 6 with a special dim sum platter featuring six different dumplings + more one-week-only specials. Make a reservation.
Plan Ahead
We’ve got an early Christmas present for you: the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar artist + live music lineup. This year’s winter arts festival at the Palmer Events Center runs Saturday, Dec. 14 through Monday, Dec. 23, featuring performances from Ray Benson, Shinyribs, Kelsey Wilson & Friends, and more.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is full of happy folks, according to a new report by J.D. Power. AUS landed at No. 11 on its list ranking overall customer satisfaction among large airports, examining factors like ease of travel, level of trust, airport staff, and more.

We have some amazing restaurants in our city, and we love highlighting new culinary gems at ATXtoday. But there have also been so many great, local restaurants that have closed over the years (Shady Grove, we miss you) — and sometimes, we get a little hankering for a meal from a place that no longer exists. Sigh.
This got us thinking about the local restaurants from yesteryear that make our readers feel that same nostalgia — the spots that would be your go-to choices for dining out if they were still around.
