  • Austin’s Watershed Protection Department “observed a lot of potentially toxic algae mats” in Lady Bird Lake at Red Bud Isle and Auditorium Shores last week. The entity recorded a rapid uptick from two weeks ago, prompting a second application of lanthanum-modified clay at specific sites yesterday.

  • South Congress Avenue is now home to another global brand: Birkenstock‘s sixth company-owned store in the US is open at 1007 S. Congress Ave. Shoppers can find a variety of footwear styles in a space inspired by the brand’s history.

  • LeRoy & Lewis will close its food truck at Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden on Sunday, July 21. The bright side? The team will instead focus on improving its new physical location at 5621 Emerald Forest Dr., including the addition of packaged foods and expansion of its retail section. (Eater Austin)

  • A new trail could connect Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail in Round Rock. Local leaders hope the proposed trail would improve accessibility between neighborhoods, parks, and schools — and they’re asking for feedback.

  • Austin ISD could turn its Anita Ferrales Coy Facility, 4900 Gonzales St., into an affordable housing development with ~700 units of multifamily workforce housing. It would need to rezone the property first, which will go before Austin City Council at its July 18 meeting. (Austin Towers)
