  • Let’s taco ‘bout itTaco Deli will open its first standalone restaurant at 1817 S. Lamar Blvd. on Wednesday, July 17. Expect an expanded cocktail menu, including a libation exclusive to the new location, and a pet-friendly patio.
Ranked
  • Austinites definitely want to work these days. Austin ranked No. 20 on SmartAsset’s list of the top 20 job markets in the US. According to the report, the Capital City’s unemployment rate sits at 3% and the median earning for workers is $53,729.
Announced
  • The Pan American Hillside Summer Concert Series is back for its 66th year with food trucks, musical performers, resource fairs, and more. The east Austin tradition will run 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday in July at 2100 E. 3rd St.
Real Estate
  • This isn’t very Texan of you, tiny apartment. Everything’s bigger in Texas, but ATX apartments are the smallest in the state, according to a new report by RentCafe. Apartments built between 2014 and 2023 average 883 sqft, while Houston’s are 992 sqft on average.
Travel
  • Coming home from international travel may soon be speedier. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will recruit + hire four additional Customs and Border Protection officers by fall 2024 to help process an increasing number of foreign passenger arrivals. The Austin airport currently has 15 officers, compared to 24 at San Antonio’s airport. (KXAN)
Festival
  • Hot Summer Nights, a three-night music festival along Red River Street, will include Waterloo Park and Liberty Lunch for the first time in its lineup of 14 local venues. The free event runs Thursday, July 18-Saturday, July 20 and will feature 100+ live performances.

  • MATTR BIOwellness Club is coming to ATX this summer. The 3,000-sqft biohacking wellness center at 7415 Southwest Pkwy., Bldg. 5, Ste. #200 will provide 17 services, including hyberbaric therapy, whole-body cryotherapy, quantum light therapy, and more.

  • Your new favorite invention may be thanks to the University of Texas System. UT issued 235 utility patents in 2023, securing it the No. 3 spot on a new list from the National Academy of Inventors recognizing 100 schools in the US for their patent achievements.

    Swim Club dives into Downright Austin this summer

    Swim Club, an open-to-all social club and dining concept, will open on Monday, June 24 in the newly renovated Downright Austin, 701 E. 11th St.

    The hotel’s historic pool has been transformed into an adult playground, complete with The Rodeo Room, a disco lounge; and The Lawn, a private event space.

    Here’s a splash of what’s in store:
    • Pool service and an indoor dining room
    • Daytime pool parties with rotating drink specials, live music + DJ sets
    • A Texas-inspired food menu with dishes like brick-oven pizzas and baja fish tacos
    • A cocktail menu with themed drinks like the Skinny Dipper, a strawberry-infused Aperol concoction, and Sharks in the Water, made with haiku vodka and roku gin
    • Additional events + activations that are yet-to-be announced
