For the crafty thrifter, look no further than Austin Creative Reuse. We’re talking yards of fabric for $5 or less, $1 skeins of yarn, beads by the string, and gently used office supplies.
Far Out Home Fittings, 1500 W. Ben White Blvd.
Far Out Home Fittings provides Austin shoppers with affordable vintage furniture, unique home decor pieces, jewelry, and a “funkyard” out back.
Prototype’s shop is a little on the pricier side, featuring vintage clothing, glasses, jewelry, and shoes.
Head over to Prototype Vintage for an upscale assortment of vintage goods sorted through the eras. Be on the lookout for name-brand goodies and style-specific pieces.

This bookstore sells the Austin Public Library’s weeded material — including books, DVDs, art, and games — often for just a few dollars apiece.

Award-winning restaurant Nixta Taqueria has temporarily closed and started a GoFundMe to help navigate a costly power failure. The restaurant, which is mostly outdoors, is currently navigating a complicated permitting and repair process.

Cheese shop Antonelli’s is on the hunt for a second location to bring the cheese to South Austin. Onwers Kendall and John Antonelli are asking for public feedback to help guide the expansion process.

Walk-in-only Italian restaurant Birdie’s is one of Southern Living’s Best New Restaurants of 2023. The restaurant, located at 2944 E. 12th St., was recognized for its casual style, upscale classics, rotating menu, and wine pairings.

In honor of National Dog Day on Saturday, Aug. 26, Lick Honest Ice Creams will host a pet parade at Mueller Lake Park. Participants in the parade should arrive by 10 a.m., and a portion of ice cream proceeds during the event will benefit Austin Pets Alive! (Community Impact Austin)

As a lifelong thrifter, I highly recommend making a day out of visiting secondhand shops.
My love of shopping secondhand has actually given me a bit of a T-shirt hoarding problem — so much so that I could probably wear a different T-shirt every day for six months without ever doing laundry. But I always look stylin’.
