Closing
Hyde Park Bar & Grill Westgate, 4521 West Gate Blvd., will permanently close down on Saturday, Sept. 3 after 17 years. The Duval Street location, which is known for its hand-battered fries, will remain open. (Austin American-Statesman)
Announced
Greater Goods Coffee Co.'s flagship store at 2501 E. 5th St. closed down to prepare for new ownership on Friday, Aug. 25. The space will reopen as the Pershing East Cafe on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Sports
Q2 Stadium will host the US Men’s National Team for another international soccer match at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16. The opponent has yet to be determined, but tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. and Austin FC Season Ticket members will have access to pre-sale. (KXAN)
Eat
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 6, everyone can eat free at local restaurant Korea House, 2700 W. Anderson Lane, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. In an Instagram post, the restaurant’s owners said this is part of an effort to provide a no-strings-attached safe space for all.
Cause
The Austin Disaster Relief Network is collecting donations to help 60 people who lost their homes in a fire at Sonora Apartments. This is the second apartment fire in the city this month. ADRN is also asking for donations of emergency supplies, including clothing and hygiene items. (KXAN)
Pets
Bow-WOW. Local dog food company Yumwoof donated 500 bags of food — worth about $30,000 — to help pets affected by the fires in Maui. The company is also collecting donations to help support the goal of sending five times as much food next month.
