Come for the race, the food, and the concerts â not the championship, because thatâs already been decided. In a bewildering turn of events, Red Bullâs Max Verstappen clinched his second consecutive Formula One title last week in the Japanese Grand Prix.
But that doesnât mean you shouldnât watch the race. F1 is one of Austinâs busiest events, drawing over 400,000 watchers each year. Single-day tickets are still available on Friday starting at $59 and Sunday starting at $259.
What to bring
Like ACL Fest, F1 is a mostly outdoor activity. Temperature highs are in the low 90s, so dress for comfort with sweat-wicking fabrics, sunglasses, and a slather of sunscreen. Binoculars could help you get an up-close look at the action, and bringing a folding chair will give you a place to rest if you donât have a seat. There is a small chance of rain throughout the weekend, so a rain poncho may come in handy in the event of a surprise storm.
Use the turn numbers to guide your way.

There are more than six intricate forts to explore. | Photo via @austin_design_lab
These arenât the forts you built as a kid.
Fortlandia is an annual immersive art exhibit featuring forts built by different local artists and designers.
The colorful structures resemble childhood pillow forts, but with a twist. This yearâs pieces represent the beauty of art + nature, and are accompanied by a bonus installation organized by The Trail Conservancy on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail.
Fortlandia is located at the Lady Bird and Johnson Wildflower Centerâs Luci and Ian Family Garden. Ticket costs vary, but admission is free for members + UT Austin students, faculty, and staff.
Fortlandia 2022 will run through Jan. 29, 2023, so pick up a passfort and get ready to explore.
