What $450K can buy you in ATX’s real estate market

Presented by an ATXtoday Partner
Millennials (now the largest population group in the US) are currently between the ages of 26 and 41 – historically, the age at which many have made the ceremonial transition to “adulthood” via homeownership.

However, between the pandemic, inflation, and the wildest housing market in years, this generation hasn’t seen the most ideal conditions for purchasing their first home.

And so, we meet the Unmortgaged Millennials — or members of this generation who have never owned a home.

Opendoor asked in their new report, “What would the unmortgaged millennial do to own a home right now… and what’s holding them back?”

Millennial homeownership by the numbers

47% of unmortgaged millennials say they would delay vacations for five years if it meant they could buy a home, and 41% would even delay a wedding for five years. 🏡

44% would say goodbye to their morning coffee runs if it meant they could buy a home —and 35% would miss out on their favorite shows and eliminate all TV.

And you can forget Hinge + Tinder — of those surveyed, two-thirds use real estate apps and a majority browse homes online. Unmortgaged millennials are home-search obsessed, and would rather swipe through interiors of homes than swipe right (or left…) on romantic prospects. 🤳

Knowing how motivated homebuyers are, we dug into Opendoor’s Austin listings to round up 3 different homes that $450K can buy you in ATX.

Did you know there are thousands of South Africans who call Texas home?

This Sat., Sept. 24 is South African Heritage Day — to commemorate, the South African Food Affair + Louis’s South African Foods are hosting the 2nd Annual South African Bazaar.

Last year, the event drew roughly 750 Austinites together in celebration of South African food, art, and culture. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s event:
  • Delicious bites such as peri-peri chicken, boerewors sausage, and milk tarts
  • South African wines and beers
  • Almost two dozen vendors selling art, fashion, and crafts
  • Services from South African-owned companies
The bazaar will take place Saturday at the Sterling Event Center from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more details, check out the event’s Facebook page here.
THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by London.

Editor’s pick: I’m having some major déjà vu this week. The Bullock Museum is re-releasing “Avatar” on its IMAX screen, which is taking me back to my first-ever IMAX experience: that’s right, seeing “Avatar” at the Bullock Museum all the way back in 2009.

If, like me, you’ll need a refresher on the story before the sequel comes out, check out showtimes here. 🎞
